Meet Alan Stern, Southwest Research Institute’s first official space traveler

There was never a time when Alan Stern didn’t enjoy learning about space.

Stern, who was born in New Orleans in 1957 and grew up in Dallas, recalls the epic Space Race of the 1960s and 1970s. He wondered about the Apollo space missions and seeing man step foot on the moon interestingly.

Years after the fact, presently a partner VP of Southwest Exploration Organization’s Space Science Division and an autonomous science advisor, Harsh has contributed altogether to the field that enlivened him.

He has contributed to the establishment of the institute’s space science and engineering division, which is based in San Antonio. He has also helped us learn more about icy objects deep within our solar system and advanced commercial space travel.
