The Gangtey Lodge’s description of its location as “just by the monastery” above the Phobjikha Valley gives a good idea of the informative stay its guests can expect. It’s easy to see why the founders decided to build a hotel here, overlooking the breathtaking valley below.
What’s less clear is that they came here for an elective elevating experience than that looked for by the priests – hot air swelling. They got sidetracked and built Gangtey Lodge while making accommodations for the pilots.
The enormous canopy can still be seen lurking in a garage despite the fact that their ballooning permit has expired. You can channel the adventurous spirit of the flying founders or get lost in the spiritual. In either case, your stay will be one to remember.
