We were traveling approximately 20 kilometers (12 miles) per day, making this a truly slow experience. By the time we reached our hotel, I would barely have enough energy to clean up and find food before I collapsed. I had hoped to do a lot of sightseeing, but there wasn’t much of it.

I quickly realized the lesson from this extraordinary travel experience:

Making the most of the journey rather than the destination was the primary focus of the Camino.
